Clean-up measures undertaken in the River Murray region has included street waste clearances, sandbag removal, disposal vouchers, structural assessments and, where necessary, hazard reduction and demolition.
Throughout the clean-up, there has been a focus on diverting as much of the flood-affected materials from landfill as possible.
To date, 33,652t of flood-affected materials have been removed from the region, including:
- 2,942t of green waste and sandbags, sent to Peats Soils and other facilities for composting or to be used as cover material
- 16,545t of additional material diverted from landfill for recycling
- 14,165t of waste, sent to landfill.
