Green Industries SA (GISA) is supporting Festival City Adelaide (FCA) to develop a sector-wide environmental sustainability strategy, action plan, and monitoring framework.

FCA has been awarded $98,950 in funding from GISA’s Lead-Educate-Assist-Promote (LEAP) grants program for the Leading Environmental Sustainability and Responsible Practice project, to be delivered in partnership with Green Music Australia.

Under the project, best-practice research, interviews, workshops and practical observations will inform the development of a comprehensive environmental sustainability strategy for FCA and its members.

The strategy, due to be launched in mid-2023, will include a sector-wide commitment to a 5-year action plan, evaluation framework and resources that will support festivals to measure and achieve sustainability targets.

The project is the first of its kind in the country, and will see South Australia’s leading festivals take a collective and strategic step forwards in embedding sustainability in their operations and in their communications with the festival-going community.

In early February, FCA hosted a Cultural Leadership Breakfast for its members and key stakeholders, Deputy Premier Susan Close, as well as GISA’s Chief Executive Ian Overton and members of the Business Sustainability Unit.

The event was an opportunity for a high-level discussion about environmental sustainability, and how the festival sector can work alongside the state government to achieve the best results in this space.
