Green Industries SA (GISA) staff have recently participated in a range of activities celebrating diversity, equity, inclusion and reconciliation.
IDAHOBIT
The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is observed annually on 17 May.
To mark IDAHOBIT, GISA staff attended a lunch and learn session featuring speakers from Bfriend, a South Australian service that provides free peer support to the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as workplace training.
Presenters shared information about the organisation’s work, the significance of IDAHOBIT, and practical ways individuals can be allies and help to create inclusive environments.
The session prompted thoughtful discussion among staff about inclusion and belonging and supporting diverse communities.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is held annually from 27 May to 3 June, commemorating two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey – the 1967 referendum and Mabo Day.
This year’s theme, All In, called for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.
GISA staff participated in a range of events across the week, beginning with attendance at the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast hosted by Reconciliation SA.
Staff also took part in a Kaurna language workshop facilitated by Uncle Tamaru Kartinyeri, where they learnt about cultural protocols, greetings, key words and phrases, and how to deliver an Acknowledgement of Country in Kaurna language.
To close out the week, staff attended a screening of Her Name is Nannie Nellie as part of the cross-government National Reconciliation Week Film Club.
These activities reflect GISA’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and advancing reconciliation through learning, engagement and meaningful action.
By participating in events such as these, our staff are continuing to build their understanding of diverse communities and cultures, helping to create a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued and supported.
