Event organisers, venue managers, councils and landowners now have access to updated guidance to help reduce waste and improve recycling outcomes at events across South Australia.

Green Industries SA has released the updated Waste and Recycling at Events and Venues guidelines, providing practical advice and tools to support better-practice waste management for events of all sizes.

South Australia's events and festivals play an important role in showcasing the state's vibrant communities, creative talent and cultural diversity. They also present an opportunity to demonstrate strong environmental leadership and improve resource recovery outcomes.

The updated guidelines are designed to support continual improvement in waste and recycling management, responding to changing community expectations, evolving regulations, advances in technology and the growing availability of waste and recycling services.

Recognising that every event has different needs, the guidelines outline flexible approaches that can be tailored to a range of settings, from small community gatherings to large-scale festivals, and from regional events to metropolitan venues.

The resource includes a comprehensive toolkit featuring practical templates, checklists and educational materials to help organisers plan and deliver more sustainable events.

Tools include bin signage, a bin estimation calculator, a recycling performance calculator, staff education posters and event planning templates.

The guidelines focus on key measures that can help minimise waste, increase reuse and recycling, and promote greater resource circularity, ensuring South Australia's events sector continues to innovate and lead in sustainable event management.
