LEAP funding delivers Festival City ADL Climate Action Roadmap

Festival City ADL (FCA) has officially launched the Leading Environmental Sustainability and Responsible Practice – Climate Action Roadmap.
The roadmap will see South Australia’s leading festivals take a collective and strategic step forwards in embedding sustainability in their operations and in their communications with the festival-going community.
Supported and funded through the Green Industries SA (GISA) Lead-Educate-Assist-Promote (LEAP) grants program, the roadmap is the first of its kind in Australia.
As the peak body for festivals and events in South Australia, the partnership between FCA and the South Australian Government has enabled a unified approach to tackle sustainability and climate-related issues through industry-driven initiatives, with a particular emphasis on fostering a climate-positive future for festivals held in Adelaide.
FCA enlisted the expertise of Green Music Australia to deliver the project and pioneer a collective approach towards sustainability.
Under the project, best-practice research, interviews, workshops and practical observations informed the development of the strategy Climate Action Roadmap for FCA and its members.
The roadmap includes a sector-wide commitment to a 5-year action plan, evaluation framework and resources that will support festivals to measure and achieve sustainability targets.
The project aligns to GISA’s Waste and Recycling Guide for Events and Venues, and highlights the role that festivals and events play in climate action and the circular economy.
Over the next 18 months, GISA will continue to provide funding and support to FCA for the next phase of the project, which will deliver sustainability action plans, on-site mentoring, and professional guidance for 9 South Australian festivals.
